Friday evening should mean closing the laptop, wrapping up the week, and maybe enjoying a beer with colleagues or friends.
But for many IP managers, Friday evening looks different.
Instead of switching off, they are still checking deadlines, updating spreadsheets, following up with patent attorneys, reviewing renewal decisions, cleaning portfolio data, or preparing reports that should have been finished earlier in the week.
In other words: Friday evening beer becomes Friday evening IP management.
This does not happen because IP managers are disorganised.
It happens because IP management is complex. Patent and trademark portfolios create a constant flow of tasks, decisions, reminders, documents, emails, and data updates. When this work is spread across inboxes, spreadsheets, law firm portals, and internal systems, the overview gets lost quickly.
The result is familiar: important work gets pushed to the end of the week.
IP managers create the most value when they can focus on strategy.
Which rights matter most? Which technologies deserve protection? Which countries are worth maintaining? Where should costs be reduced? Which assets support the business?
These are strategic questions. They should not be buried underneath administrative follow-up, scattered data, and manual reminders.
IP management should be structured, transparent, and easy to keep up to date.
A good IP management solution helps teams centralise their portfolio, stay on top of deadlines, collaborate with internal stakeholders, and make decisions with confidence. It reduces repetitive work and gives IP managers back the overview they need.
